The ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets announced that former Smiths Falls Bears star Matt Robertson has been signed for the 2016-17 season.

Robertson, a native of Rohnert Park, CA suited up for the Bears for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.  During his stay he totalled 73 goals and 174 points in 132 games.  He led the league with 47 goals during the 2011-12 season, being named a 1st team All-Star and earning the CCHL Sportsmanship Award.

The 6-1, 190 lb forward would then go on to attend Ferris State University for four years.  He would be named to the WCHA All-Academic Team in his final two seasons, and would help the program to a 2015-16 WCHA Championship.

He will now join the Komets, who are coming off an extremely strong season which saw them advance as far as the ECHL Conference Finals.  In North American professional hockey, only the NHL’s Original Six teams and the AHL’s Hershey Bears have played continuously in the same city and with the same name longer than the Komets.
