Early goals doom Cumberland, falls to Kemptville, 10-3

 

The Cumberland Grads fell behind early, and the Kemptville 73s kept piling on the points on the way to a 10-3 victory.

 

Jason Tackett had five goals to lead Kemptville to victory. Tackett got on the scoresheet 44 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 7:35 into the first, at 19:38 into the first, at 1:56 into the third, and at 14:48 into the third.

The 73s forced Grads' goalies to work all game long, totaling 45 shots and forcing 35 saves. Kevin Gollmer made 32 stops and Paul Leger made three. Kemptville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cumberland to score on any of its five power plays. The 73s surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Kemptville averages 3.8 goals per game.

Kemptville additionally got points from Dean Galasso, who also had one goal and one assist. Tyson Kirkby also scored for Kemptville. More assists for Kemptville came via Cameron Russell, who had four, Erik Brown, who had five, Owen Guy and Shawn Cameron, who each chipped in one, and Cody Hendsbee, Matt Tugnutt, Alex Row, and Rob Grant, who contributed two each.

The Grads racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Cumberland surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Grads forced the 73s goalie Jacob Tugnutt to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Cumberland was helped by Peter Sigouin, who grabbed one goal. Sigouin scored short handed 11:54 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Kemptville. The Grads found themselves down a man on Ted McCabe's cross checking. Cumberland also got a goal from Travis Douglas as well. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Bobby Williams, Matthew Morin, and Martin Frechette, who each chipped in one.

Tugnutt recorded 34 saves for Kemptville. The 73s totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 3-for-6 on the power play. For Kemptville, Galasso was ejected from the game. Cumberland ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Morin was ejected from the game.
