DeBrouwer leads Smiths Falls to shutout victory over Hawkesbury

 

Evan DeBrouwer recorded a shutout against the Hawkesbury Hawks as the Smiths Falls Bears picked up a 6-0 win.

 

Smiths Falls was led by Cole Busschaert, who had one goal and one assist. Busschaert scored on the power play 9:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. The Bears earned a power play opportunity when Jonathan Tecce was put in the box for slashing. Kevin Groulx provided the assist.

Smiths Falls' defensive play was more effective than usual against Hawkesbury. The Bears average 2.3 goals allowed per game. The Hawks were unable to stop Smiths Falls from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bears eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Smiths Falls surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Bears have scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Smiths Falls also got points from Groulx, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Matthew Kenney, who also registered one goal and one assist, Nicolas Coates, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Michael McKenney, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Corey Caruso also scored for Smiths Falls. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Broydon Stufko, Jared Henry, Brett Garvey, and Rutkowski Joey, who each chipped in one.

Hawkesbury could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Hawks average 3.6 goals per game. Hawkesbury found itself short handed often, totaling 16 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

Smiths Falls' DeBrouwer stopped 26 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Bears incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Andrew Tucci made 33 saves for the Hawks on 39 shots. Hawkesbury registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
