Cornwall's comeback falls short, Brockville wins 7-5

 

The Brockville Braves came close to giving away a four-goal lead to the Cornwall Colts, but did just enough to escape with a 7-5 victory.

Brockville led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Braves' Brett Van Stralen scored at 2:25 in the second period to put Brockville up 5-1.

 

Sean King was all over the ice for the Braves, as he had two goals in the win. King scored at 13:14 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Brockville and again while 19:58 into the third to make the score 7-5 Brockville.

Brockville forced Cornwall goalie Denny Dubblestyne to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The Braves bested their season scoring average. Brockville averages 3.6 goals per game.

Brockville additionally got points from Jack Billings, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Brockville included Ethan Weiss, Blake Carrick, and Liam Folkes, who scored one goal each. In addition, Brockville received assists from Eric Israel, Neil Robinson, Jack Patterson, Jack Gill, and Andrew Peski, who each chipped in one.

The Colts excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Cornwall's offense rang up 41 shots on the Braves' net.

The Colts were helped by Kevin Hope, who registered one goal. Hope scored on the power play 13:02 into the third period to make the score 6-5 Brockville. A high sticking penalty on Israel had put Cornwall on the power play. Marly Quince assisted on the tally. Cornwall also got points from Grant Cooper, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Tristen Elie, who also had one goal and one assist, and Quince, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Cornwall also got a goal from Lawson MacDonald as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Ross Craig, who had two and Cal Hofford, Tanner Spink, Peter Angelopoulos, and Ryan Patulli, who contributed one each.

Mitchell Datz recorded 36 saves for Brockville. The Braves incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Denny Dubblestyne made 27 saves for the Colts on 33 shots. Cornwall incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
