Cornwall uses shootout to best Ottawa, 2-1 (2-0 SO)

 

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cornwall Colts defeated the Ottawa Senators in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured four attempts between both teams. In addition to the clincher, Cornwall got a shootout goal from Lawson MacDougall.

 

Ottawa was stymied by the Colts' netminder Liam Lascelle, who stopped 41 shots during the victory. Lascelle managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.9 prior to the game.

Cornwall pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Colts excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Cornwall was led by Tanner Spink, who tallied one goal. Spink scored 9:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cornwall. Dean Derouchie assisted on the tally. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Lawson MacDonald, who had one.

The Senators stifled the Colts' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Ottawa was held below its usual level of production. The Senators average 3.4 goals per game. Cornwall was unable to stop Ottawa from sending pucks towards the net, and the Senators eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

Ottawa was led by Jody Sullivan, who scored the team's only goal. Sullivan scored 5:56 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Geoffrey Lawson picked up the assist.

The Colts registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Ian Andriano rejected 22 shots on goal for the Senators. Ottawa incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
