CCHL Recap | Junior Senators, Bears, Colts, Grads and 73’s Win Sunday Games

Ottawa, ON – Five games were happening in the Central Canada Hockey League Sunday afternoon and evening. To kick off Sunday, the Ottawa Junior Senators traveled to the Nepean Raiders, where in a shootout the Junior Senators won 3-2. The Smiths Falls Bears visited the Carleton Place Canadians, after 60-minutes the Bears won 6-1. The Cornwall Colts traveled to the Hawkesbury Hawks, in a shootout the Colts won 3-2. The Navan Grads hosted the Rockland Nationals, where the Grads won 8-3. The Kemptville 73’s traveled to the Pembroke Lumber Kings, after 60-minutes the 73’s shutout the Lumber Kings 3-0.

F | Ottawa 3 Nepean 2 (SO)

Felix Bellfoy ignited Ottawa’s offense with a 1st-period goal, answered by Conrad Moline in the 2nd. Nicolas Papineau leveled the score for Nepean before Joshua Reid’s 3rd-period tally gave them a brief lead. With no scoring in overtime, the game extended to a shootout where Liam Lucas secured the win for Ottawa. Goaltender Connor Shibley made 29 saves for Ottawa, while Nepean’s Brady McEwan made 30 saves.

F | Smiths Falls 6 Carleton Place 1

In the 1st period, Travis Ouellette and Shaymus Stevenson set the tone for Smiths Falls. Bill Gourgon managed a lone goal for Carleton Place in the 2nd period. Hunter O’Brien and Owen Watson extended the lead for Smiths Falls in the same period. The 3rd period saw Jackson Heron and Lucas Culhane adding to the tally, sealing the win. Goaltender Dawson Labre of Smiths Falls made 23 saves, while Carleton Place’s Aidan Feddema made 33 saves.

F | Cornwall 3 Hawkesbury 2 (SO)

In the 1st period, Aidan Stubbings and Alex Fournier scored for Hawkesbury, but Cornwall responded in the 2nd period with goals from Brennan Boyce and Jacob McLellan. The 3rd period and overtime remained scoreless, leading to a decisive shootout. Nathan Garnier’s successful attempt sealed the win for Cornwall. Goaltender Donald Hickey made 35 saves for Cornwall. On the opposing end, Hawkesbury’s netminder Dimitri Pelekos made 46 saves. 

F | Rockland 3 Navan 8

In the 1st period, Jacob Charron scored for Rockland, countered by Colin Holmes for Navan. The 2nd period showcased Navan’s offensive prowess, with Sebbie Johnson, Gabriel Crete and Colin Holmes who notched two goals. Rockland’s Aidan Dres managed two goals as well. The 3rd period continued Navan’s onslaught, with Shaan Kingwell, Sebbie Johnson, and Gabriel Crete adding to the tally. Goaltender Sebastian Resar of Rockland made 29 saves, while Navan’s Jaeden Nelson stopped 25 shots.

F | Kemptville 3 Pembroke 0

The 1st period remained scoreless, setting the stage for a dynamic game. In the 2nd period, Eric Sweetapple and Tyler Melvin netted goals for Kemptville, establishing a lead. Tyler Melvin continued his scoring in the 3rd period, sealing the win for Kemptville with a 3-0 final score. Goaltender Jacob Biron of Kemptville made 20 saves and securing a shutout. Pembroke’s netminder, Kevin Jones, made 16 saves.
