Carleton Place stifles Kemptville’s comeback, gains 3-2 victory

The Kemptville 73s almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Carleton Place Canadians managed to pull out a 3-2 win in the end.

Carleton Place led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Canadians’ Andrew Dodson scored short handed at 11:37 in the first period to put Carleton Place up 3-0.

The Canadians pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 12 penalty minutes.

Carleton Place was sparked by Stephen Baylis, who registered one goal. Baylis scored 13:43 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Carleton Place. Vinny Post picked up the assist.

The Canadians excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Carleton Place forced Kemptville goalie Nicholas Hodgins to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Others who scored for Carleton Place included Wesley Baker and Andy Sturtz, who scored one goal each. More assists for Carleton Place came via Tyson Stewart, Adam Lloyd, Jordan Larson, and Craig Pefley, who each chipped in one.

The 73s were helped by Erik Brown, who had one goal. Brown scored 13:39 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place. Alex Row assisted on the tally. Cody Hendsbee also scored for Kemptville. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Brandon Cole, Jake Gaudet, and Matt Tugnutt, who contributed one each.

Adrian Clark made 17 saves for the Canadians on 19 shots. Carleton Place registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Kemptville’s Hodgins stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The 73s incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
