Carleton Place shuts out Cumberland 2-0

 

Bryce VanHorn gave the Carleton Place Canadians the lead in the first period, and the Cumberland Grads was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

Carleton Place took over the lead for good with a goal by VanHorn at 12:20 in the first period. The Canadians played down a man on Jacob Moreau's slashing. Braedyn Asselstine assisted on the tally.

 

Colton Point spearheaded the defensive effort for Carleton Place, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 31 saves for the shutout. The solid play of Point will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.26.

The Canadians pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 10 penalty minutes.

Carleton Place stifled Cumberland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Canadians was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Carleton Place allows 3.0 goals per game.

Carleton Place also got a goal from Shawn Kennedy as well. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Nicolas Carrier, who had one and Maxime StPierre, who had two.

The Grads excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Cumberland could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Grads put an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game. Cumberland forced the Canadians goalie Point to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Thierry Messervier recorded 23 saves for the Grads. Cumberland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
