Carleton Place falls to Ottawa in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Nicolas Carrier gave the Ottawa Senators a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Carleton Place Canadians when he scored 15:05 into the extra period.

Ottawa overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Senators was down 5-3 after a goal by Carleton Place’s Alex Friesen at 18:59 in the second period. Ottawa tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Isaac Anderson at 43 seconds in the fourth period.

With three goals and three assists between them, Jim Pearson and Salim Mahi-Beaudry teamed up to power the Senators’ offense. Pearson registered one goal and three assists and Mahi-Beaudry also added two goals.

Ottawa’s penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to the Canadians’ power play unit.

Ottawa also got a goal from Mitchell Gibson as well. In addition, Ottawa received assists from William Cullen, Sean Rappleyea, Greg Meireles, Daniel Sarracco, Zacharie Car, and Geoffrey Lawson, who each chipped in one.

Carleton Place was led by Nicolas Mucci, who tallied two goals. Mucci scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:20 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Carleton Place. A tripping penalty on Sarracco had put the Canadians on the power play. Carrier provided the assist. Mucci’s next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Carleton Place with 4:15 left in the second period. Bryce VanHorn picked up the assist. Carleton Place additionally got points from Carrier, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Vinny Post also scored for Carleton Place. More assists for Carleton Place came via Brett Murray, who had two and Marcus Joseph, Lucas Batt, and Connor Merkley, who contributed one each.

Ian Andriano recorded 22 saves for the Senators. Ottawa incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Adrian Clark made 25 saves for Carleton Place on 30 shots. The Canadians incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
