Lasers Graduation

Ottawa, Ontario – Four Kanata Lasers players played their final CCHL game last night after being eliminated by the Brockville Braves via a sweep.

Tanner Schroeder, William Brochu, Connor Rider and defenseman Ryan Bunka are all ’97 born players and dawned the Lasers uniform for one last time.

With Schroeder committed to NCAA D III Byrn Athyn College for next season and Brochu committed to NCAA D III Adrien College for next season, Bunka and Rider are still uncommitted. Leaving the off-season a more of an opportunity for these young men to find a place to play hockey.

Tanner Schroeder began his career with of Metcalfe Jets of the EOJHL in 2014/15 where he scored 10 points as a 17 year old. In his age 18 year old season, he was dealt to the Winchester Hawks and scored 22 goals in the CCHL2 before being brought up to the Lasers the season after.

Over the past two full seasons and the CCHL, he posted 32 points in 117 games while being known for his grit and great penalty killing. The NCAA D III commit played his minor hockey with the Cumberland Jr Grads and Ottawa Senators AAA.

Brochu picked up his season when he as traded to the Lasers this year. The 20 year old posted 24 points (13G/11A) in just 36 games, setting career highs in goals and assists. Prior to his stint with the Lasers, Brochu played the start of the season with Yorkton on the SJHL and in prep school.

Rider played on three different teams last year in the OJHL before joining the Kanata Lasers this season and finally finding a home. The 6’6 body had a career season in 2015/16 where he scored 18 goals and 37 points in the NOJHL but became more of a role player in his next two seasons. This year he netted six goals and six assists in 47 games.

The only graduating Lasers defenseman is Ryan Bunka. The Markham, Ontario native started his CCHL career with the Hawkesbury Hawks in 2015/16 where he scored 24 points in 55 games before being traded to Kanata midway through last season. This season he lead the lasers D core in points with 39 (10G) in 55 games.
