CCHL Shines at Eastern Canada Cup

Trenton, Ont. — The Central Canada Hockey League’s 40-man contingent performed well at the three-day Eastern Canada Cup at Trenton, Ont.’s Duncan McDonald Arena.

Jason Clarke’s CCHL Team Red went 3-1 in round-robin play, finishing first in Pool A, before falling 4-2 in the tournament final against the QJHL’s St. Louis division team.

Martin Dagenais’s Team White also went 3-1 in round-robin action, finishing second in Pool B, before bowing out to Team Red in the tournament semi-final.

Navan Grads defenceman Zach Salloum (RIT) led the tournament in goals (3), assists (4) and points (7).

CCHL players dominated the tournament scoring leaderboard, as Sam KnoblauchMatt Barnaby (Lake Superior), Justin Cmunt and Nick Lalonde (Robert Morris) rounded out the ECC’s Top-5 points.

“Both CCHL Red and White showed elite levels of skill (and) competitiveness, but even better professionalism and effort,” said CCHL commissioner Kevin Abrams via Twitter. “An amazing job by the Trenton Golden Hawks, the town of Quinte West and the OJHL hosting the Eastern Canada Cup.”

Regular-season play in the CCHL resumes on Thursday night with two games: Carleton Place visits Cornwall, while Kanata hosts Kemptville.
