Theocharidis Named Defenseman of the Year

Carleton Place, Ontario – The Central Canada Hockey League announced Thursday that Carleton Place Canadians blueliner Tim Theocharidis has been named the CCHL’s 2017/18 Defenseman of the Year.

Theocharidis, 19, is currently in his third and final year with the Carleton Place Canadians as he is set to join Bowling Green University NCAA D1 next season. The Pickering, Ontario native among defenseman, is tied for first in points with (53), is also tied for first in assists (36) and is second in goals with 17. His five game winning goals are first among D and so are his three short-handed goals.

He takes home the defenseman of the year award after being named to the first all-star squad earlier this week. He becomes the second Carleton Place Canadian to take home this award after Owen Grant received the same award last year.

Canadians Head Coach Jason Clarke says that Theocharidis is the most dominant player in the CJHL.

“He is not only the best D-man in our league but he is the most dominate player in Jr. A Hockey around the country,” said Clarke.

“It has been a real pleasure to see Tim grow as a person and as a player and I am very proud of him.”

Clarke also pointed out that Theocharidis has come a long way from when he first joined the Canadians in 2015/16.

“Tim has embraced the development process since coming to CP as a 17 year old. He and his family knew it was a marathon not a sprint. Having this type of support and mentality has really helped Tim become a better player at his pace.”

Clarke says that he could not be more proud of him as a coach.

“This is what gets my juices flowing as a coach. It’s to see a young teenager come to our program and leave as a man ready to take on a new challenge. It’s what hockey at are level is all about.”

Theocharidis can add this award to a long list of achievements. He was the captain of Team Canada East at the World Jr. A Challenge this year and he has two Bogart Cup rings.

Those rings are what’s most important to Theocharidis and the Canadians. They look for their fifth straight championship starting with the first round next week.
