Roik has committed to Castleton University for 2018-19 season

Kanata, Ontario – The Central Canada Hockey League is proud to announce that Kanata Lasers ’98 forward Ugo Roik has committed to NCAA Division Three Castleton University for the 2018-19 season.

Roik, 19, was drafted by the Nepean Raiders in 2013, playing from 2014-2015 with the Ottawa Jr. 67’s Midget AAA club before joining the Raiders Jr. A team full time in 2015-16.

Over two full seasons with Nepean, the Ottawa, Ontario native recorded 25 points (6G/16A) in 77 career CCHL games.

“Castleton just felt like the perfect fit. It had everything I wanted academically in terms of a business program” said Roik. “On top of that, it has an amazing campus with small class sizes that suit my learning style”.

From a hockey sided of things, Ugo believes that their coaching staff breeds a winning style “They have a remarkable coaching staff that breeds a winning attitude and that’s the kind of atmosphere I wanted to be a part of”.

Roik still has one more year of junior eligibility but feels that if everything goes to plan, he is expected to join their club next season.

“I decided to commit early because I felt ready to take the next step both academically and with hockey, and seeing the fit at Castleton made the decision that much easier”.

Roik has yet to suit up for the Kanata Lasers this season but is expected to make his debut on Sunday, January 7th against the Nepean Raiders.
