OTTAWA, ON – The Central Canada Hockey League is pleased to announce the Mark Yakabuski Scholarship Award that will be presented to the CCHL’s top Graduating High School player in honour of the late Mark Yakabuski.
“The CCHL is honoured to have Matt Yakabuski raise the funds and create this significant academic award to honour his late brother Mark”, said CCHL Academic Director Jonathan Calof. “This award is significant from several perspectives. Very importantly it is a great example of CCHL alumni giving back to the league. Both Matt and Mark played in the CCHL – Mark with Kanata and Brockville and Matt with Kanata and Gloucester. We hope that the generosity of Matt will spur other CCHL alumni to consider giving back. Secondly, the award which is focused on honoring a CCHL High School graduating player is consistent with our leagues focus on academics. Finally, Mark Yakabuski was an extraordinary person who through his playing and coaching inspired many young players. He was known for his loyalty, humour, and selflessness. He is a role model for our players, and we look forward to having this award to honor such an incredible person.”
