RECAP | Nepean, Carleton Place, Cornwall and Pembroke win Sunday

Ottawa, ON – The CCHL saw 8 teams in action on Sunday November 10th with Nepean, Carleton Place, Cornwall and Pembroke win on Sunday.

 

Nepean 3, Ottawa 1

Nepean defeated Ottawa 3-1, with scoring starting in the first period as Nepean’s Benoit netted a power-play goal early at 1:03, quickly answered by Ottawa’s Poor at 5:10, also on a power play. The second period saw no goals, with each team picking up penalties. In the third period, Nepean pulled ahead when Pollock scored at 15:59, and Smith sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 19:59. Ottawa led in shots 38-35, but Nepean’s goalie, Gedraitis, made 37 saves to secure the victory. Both teams were 1-for-3 on power plays.

 

Carleton Place 3, Smiths Falls 1

The Carleton Place Canadians triumphed over the Smiths Falls Bears with a 3-1 final score. Carleton Place built an early lead in the first period with goals from Bouwer and Doucet. After a scoreless second period, Smiths Falls responded with a goal by Riopel early in the third, but Bouwer sealed the win for Carleton Place with a late goal. Despite outshooting Carleton Place 31-22, Smiths Falls couldn’t break through Carleton Place’s goalie, Vandenberg, who made 30 saves, while Morrow recorded 19 saves for Smiths Falls. Neither team scored on power plays.

 

Cornwall 2, Navan 1 (SO)

The Cornwall Colts edged out the Navan Grads 2-1 in a shootout after a hard-fought game that went scoreless through overtime. Navan struck first late in the first period with a goal from Brown, assisted by Jenken and Magaletta. Cornwall quickly answered in the second period with Lauzon’s equalizer, assisted by McCuaig and Walker. Despite multiple penalties on both sides, neither team could capitalize on power plays, keeping the score tied through regulation and a tense overtime. In the shootout, Cornwall’s Lauzon scored to secure the win. Cornwall’s Chabot made 36 saves, while Navan’s Gagne stopped 39 of 40 shots.

 

Pembroke 2, Kemptville 1

The Pembroke Lumber Kings edged out the Kemptville 73’s with a late 2-1 win in a tightly contested game. Kemptville took an early lead in the first period with a goal from Bennett, assisted by Gilmour and Stubbings, but Pembroke responded later in the period when Barnard scored on a power play to tie the game. The second period was scoreless, with both teams generating chances but unable to break the deadlock. As the third period neared its end, Pembroke’s Cardiff found the net with just 23 seconds left, securing the win. Kemptville outshot Pembroke 29-28, but Pembroke’s goalie Modelski made 28 saves, just enough to hold off Kemptville’s offense and secure the victory.
