Jack Quinn Named Rookie of the Year

Kanata, Ontario – The Central Canada Hockey League announced Wednesday that Kanata Lasers 16 year old forward Jack Quinn has been named the winner of the 2017/18 Rookie of the Year award.

Quinn, 16, scored 21 goals, 25 assists and 46 points over 49 games. Leading all rookies in in goals and points. The Ottawa 67’s (OHL) prospect was also called up for eight games with the “barber poles” this season, netting one assist during that time.

Linemate, Chad Merrell, says that Quinner (Jack Quinn) is one of the most skilled players in the league.

“What he has done as a 16 year old is remarkable,” said Merrell. “Good things happen when the puck is on his stick. He’s creative and he works hard too.”

Chad Merrell also noted that Quinn has been a huge part of the team’s success this season and said that the team (Kanata) would not be in a playoff position without his effort.

The Ottawa, Ontario native was drafted by the Lasers in second round of the 2016 CCHL Bantam Draft and was drafted in 2017 by the Ottawa 67’s in the second round. He was named the HEO Midget AAA Rookie of the Year last season with the Lasers U18 program, scoring 28 goals and 52 points in 45 games.

Lasers Head Coach Nathan Hewitt also says that he has been a huge part of the team’s success this season.

“Jack’s (Quinn) has had a great season. His goal scoring and play making ability is impressive. He’s been a huge part in the Lasers success this season.”

As mentioned by Hewitt, Quinn has the unbelievable ability to put the puck into the back of the net and has excellent vison on the ice. Lasers Broadcaster Brett Bonisteel says he might be the best 16 year old to ever play in the Central Canada Hockey League.

The Kanata Lasers regular season has come to an end but they will begin their playoff schedule with Jack Quinn in the lineup next week.
