Ottawa, ON- This week the CCHL lost a beloved member as longtime Nepean Raiders executive Randy Watt passed away after a battle with ALS. He will be missed. We received the below message from longtime commishener and freind of Randy, Kevin Abrams:
The CCHL and hockey community in Ottawa lost a true gentleman this week with the passing of Randy Watt.
Just weeks after another beautiful soul Steve Barban passed away suddenly another is gone.
I was asked to say a few words about Randy. It’s hard to do that when there’s so much that could be said.
As a coach, manager and governor in the CCHL, Randy was a passionate and committed member of the Nepean Raiders who always was honest and forthright in everything he did.
Randy was a friend and colleague to me for nearly 20 years.
Whenever there was something needed to help make the league better he could be counted on for unwavering support.
He told me of his diagnosis privately in the CCHL office while we were at a meeting. I remember it vividly – not the date or time but the amazing courage that came in through in his words.
Randy showed such bravery in the coming weeks and months he inspired everyone who knew him.
He loved the game, the league, his team with complete and total committment every day.
One thing that he loved even more was so clear to me and so magnified during his illness was his love of family. We were friends in life and on social media and I loved seeing his beautiful family (and dog) through his eyes.
Such complete devostion and happiness.
Randy you’ve left a lasting impression on so many of us. A fitting tribute a few weeks ago was the tip of the iceberg in terms of how many people love and appreciate you.
You’ll be missed and continue to be loved by all of us.
