Cumberland vanquishes Smiths Falls in shootout, 2-1 (1-0 SO)

 

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cumberland Grads defeated the Smiths Falls Bears in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

 

Cumberland was led by goalie Kevin Gollmer, who finished with 35 saves while allowing one goal. Gollmer certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.31 entering the contest.

The Grads excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

Cumberland was led by Travis Douglas, who registered one goal. Douglas scored 16:25 into the third period to make the score 1-0 Cumberland. Martin Frechette assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Brandon Zullo, who had one.

Smiths Falls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Grads to score on any of their four power plays. The Bears forced Cumberland goalie Gollmer to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Smiths Falls was led by Cole Busschaert, who scored the team's only goal. Busschaert scored 19:03 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Josh Leblanc picked up the assist.

The Grads incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Cole Skinner rejected 26 shots on goal for the Bears. Smiths Falls incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
