CUMBERLAND GRADS NAME SYLVAIN FAVREAU AS NEW HEAD COACH

(NAVAN, ONTARIO – April 21, 2015) Steve Barban, President and General Manager of the Cumberland Grads Junior A Hockey Club, is pleased to announce the hiring of Sylvain Favreau as Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations for the club. Signed to a three-year contract, Mr. Favreau will be responsible for the overall hockey operations within the Grads franchise.

Sylvain has coached for the last six years in the CCHL; the last four as the head coach of the Gloucester Rangers where he led the team to incremental improvements in league standings each season, this past year successfully earning a playoff spot and winning a round. As an HP1 certified coach, he has been selected to attend many coaching events, the latest honour being named as an assistant coach at the Central Canada Cup.

A perfect role model for current and future players alike, Sylvain played in the CCHL for multiple seasons before moving on to the NCAA and eventually enjoying a five-year professional career in Europe. Given his very strong hockey background, he has established a wealth of hockey contacts both in North America and abroad; contacts who will be instrumental in helping to bring players in to the Grads as well as moving roster players on to higher levels. In his previous coaching role he was a key contributor in moving several players on to the NCAA, Major Junior Hockey and the CIS.

As Director of Hockey Operations, Sylvain believes very firmly in the development model being jointly pursued by the CCHL and the ODMHA; and is eager to imprint his up-tempo playing style to all three franchises under the Grads umbrella. Sylvain will serve as head coach for both the CCHL and the CDHL franchises and will work closely with the Midget AAA head coach as a mentor. He will also oversee the Grads hockey camps and minor hockey schools.

The Cumberland Grads are a Junior A member franchise in the Central Canada Hockey League. They also own and operate a spring franchise in the Central Development Hockey League (CDHL) as well as operating on behalf of the ODMHA, the Cumberland Grads Midget AAA Hockey Club playing in the HEO Midget AAA League.
