Cornwall survives Cumberland comeback, wins 4-3

 

The Cornwall Colts survived a determined comeback attempt by the Cumberland Grads on the way to a 4-3 win.

Cornwall made the score 4-2 on a goal by Tristen Elie at 19:12 in the third period, and Cumberland got as close as 4-3 when Thomas Mansbridge scored 19:54 into the third period.

 

The Colts stifled the Grads' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cornwall kept Cumberland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kevin Gollmer made 29 saves on 33 shots.

Cornwall additionally got points from Lawson MacDonald, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Grant Cooper, Marly Quince, and Peter Angelopoulos, who contributed one each.

The Grads were led by Brett Faber, who registered one goal and one assist. Faber scored 4:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cumberland. Branden Makara also scored for Cumberland. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Chandler Watson and Matthew Morin, who each chipped in one.

Brett Nichol made 21 saves for the Colts on 24 shots. Cornwall incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Cumberland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
