Cornwall falls to Smiths Falls in overtime, 2-1 (OT)

 

Cole Busschaert gave the Smiths Falls Bears a 2-1 (OT) victory over the Cornwall Colts when he scored 1:37 into the extra period.

 

Cornwall was stymied by Smiths Falls' netminder Evan DeBrouwer, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. DeBrouwer certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.57 entering the contest.

The Bears were led by Busschaert, who had one goal.

Smiths Falls stifled the Colts' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bears forced Cornwall goalie Brett Nichol to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Michael McKenney also scored for Smiths Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Jared Henry, Brett Garvey, and Matthew Kenney, who contributed one each.

The Colts did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Cornwall puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game.

The Colts were led by Brennan Markell, who scored the team's only goal. Markell scored 5:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cornwall. Nick Lalonde provided the assist.

Smiths Falls incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Cornwall's Nichol stopped 31 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Colts incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
