CCHL Recap | Nepean, Carleton Place, Smiths Falls and Pembroke Win Sunday Night

Ottawa, ON – We kicked off October with four games Sunday afternoon and evening in the Central Canada Hockey League. Nepean, Carleton Place, Smiths Falls and Pembroke get the win in the games on Sunday.

F | Brockville 4 Nepean 5 (OT)

Nepean opens the first period leading with two. Nicolas Papineau and Nick Houben get Nepean on the board. Kimani Ecclestion for Brockville closes out the first 20-minutes. Joshua Reid for Nepean gets the first goal in the second period. Kimani Ecclestion gets his second of the night and second goal for Brockville. Brandon Reinisch gets the fourth goal for Nepean. Owen Watson and Jackson Arango gets Brockville tied up going into the third. No scoring third period. Overtime ends within 50-seconds with a Nepean win from Nicolas Papineau with his second goal of the night. Brockville goaltender Zane Spaniol ends with 39-saves. Nepean goaltender Brady McEwen ends with 38-saves.

F | Hawkesbury 2 Carleton Place 7

Carleton Place gets the solo goal in the first period from Dylan Pollock. A high intensity 20-minute second period starts off with a Carleton Place goal from Loic Prudhomme and a goal from Masen Culley. Hawkesbury gets on the board with two goals; Alexis Minville and Aidan Stubbings get the two for Hawkesbury this evening. Mathieu Fehr gets a goal for Carleton Place late in the second. William Bouwer gets a short handed goal for Carleton Place at the start of the third. Two more Carleton Place goals from Thomas Dickey and Aidan Cooper get the final two Carleton Place goals for the afternoon. Starting goaltender for Hawkesbury Dimitri Pelekos saves 19-shots, Caleb Chabot closes out the game with 13-saves. The starting goaltender for Carleton Place, Jackson Pundyk saves 22 shots before having to leave the game to do a hit. Ian Vandenberg finishes the game with 3-saves.

F | Smiths Falls 2 Navan 1 (OT)

The Bears made their trip down to the Navan Memorial on Sunday worth it as they managed to pick up the 2 points in an overtime victory over the Grads. Smiths Falls would open the scoring early in the first with a shot from Kyle Dagg in the high slot that would beat Nelson low. The game would continue slow to start but both teams quickly picked up the pace late in the first period as the game became very back and forth. The equalizer wouldn’t come until early in the second, when Cristobal Tola netted his fourth of the season, and third goal in two games for the Grads. With both teams deadlocked at 1 a piece, the game would go scoreless through the third and the game would see overtime, where Trevor Faucher would net the Game winner 12 seconds in to give the Bears the Victory. Both goalies would stop 29 shots, as the bears extend their record to 6 and 0, and manage to hold onto the top spot in the CCHL Standings.

F | Kemptville 4 Pembroke 5 (SO)

Seven seconds into the first period Ty Whyte gets Kemptville on the board. Ryan Parent and Andrew Schmidt gets Pembroke two goals in the first. Second period starts with Kemptville getting two goals; Nicholas Bennett gets a power play goal and Tyler Moroz gets the second goal. Pembroke’s Charlie Blewett ties up the game in the second period after 20-minutes. Start of the third period, Pembroke gets the lead with a goal from Andrew Schmit, his second of the night. Ty Whyte gets his second goal of the night making it a tie game pushing the game to overtime. No goal overtime. After seven rounds of shootout, Andrew Schmidt got the game winning goal. Kemptville goaltender Braxton Bennett gets 25-saves. Pembroke goaltender Kevin Jones ends with 36-saves.
