Carleton Place falls to Cornwall in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

 

The Cornwall Colts' Grant Cooper scored 5:24 into overtime to beat the Carleton Place Canadians, 3-2 (OT).

 

The win gave Cornwall a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Carleton Place could not complete its climb out of a two-goal hole. The Colts made it 2-0 on a goal by Cooper at 5:49 in the second period. The Canadians got to within 2-1 on a power play goal by Andy Sturtz at 5:11 in the third period.

Cooper had a great game for Cornwall, netting two goals.

Cornwall also got a goal from Kevin Hope as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Ross Craig, Lawson MacDonald, Jay DAmour, Tristen Elie, Zac Tierney, and Ryan Patulli, who each chipped in one.

Carleton Place's offense rang up 31 shots on the Colts' net.

The Canadians were helped by Stephen Baylis, who finished with one goal. Baylis scored on the power play 15:40 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Adam Lloyd assisted on the tally. Carleton Place also got points from Sturtz, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Carleton Place came via Jordan Larson and Ryker Killins, who contributed one each.

Cornwall's Denny Dubblestyne stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Colts incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Guillaume Therien made 20 saves for Carleton Place on 23 shots. The Canadians incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
