Carleton Place downs Nepean in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

 

The Carleton Place Canadians pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Nepean Raiders on a clutch goal by Alex Friesen.

 

Carleton Place overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Canadians was down 2-0 after a goal by Nepean's Derek Varrin at 7:11 in the first period. Carleton Place tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Jordan Larson at 13:38 in the third period.

The Canadians' penalty kill excelled, as Carleton Place gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Canadians stifled the Raiders' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Carleton Place forced Nepean goalie Francis Marotte to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Carleton Place additionally got points from Larson, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Lucas Batt also scored for Carleton Place. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Nicolas Carrier, Vinny Post, and Maxime StPierre, who each chipped in one.

The Raiders were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 16 penalty minutes.

Nepean also got a goal from Jody Sullivan as well. More assists for Nepean came via Evan Lindquist, Hunter Garlasco, and Josh Zizek, who contributed one each.

Colton Point took the win and made 20 saves before being replaced by Adrian Clark who made zero saves. The Canadians incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Francis Marotte made 30 saves for Nepean on 33 shots.
