The Carleton Place Canadians dropped their first game of the 2017 Fred Page Cup in Terrebonne, QC, falling 2-1 in the Shootout to College Francais de Longueuil Wednesday night.

After a scoreless first period in which Carleton Place controlled most of the play, they would strike first early in the second as Justin Cmunt would speed down the wing and snipe one past Longueuil goaltender Stefano Cantali.  From there it would turn out to be a busy period for Canadians goaltender Connor Hughes as Longueuil controlled most of the play, throwing 13 shots on net to Carleton Place’s 6.

In the third, the Quebec league representative would continue to control the play and it would pay off on the powerplay as Maxime Chagnon would beat Hughes to tie things up 1-1.  Teams would go back and forth but neither would be able to get the go-ahead goal in regulation and the game would need to be decided in extra time.

After a 10-minute 4 on 4 Overtime in which neither team would be able to end it, the game would head into a shootout.

Vincent Chapleau would score on the first attempt and it would turn out to be the winner as all three Canadians shooters could not beat Cantali who made the big saves when he had to all night.
