The Central Canada Hockey League and Kemptville 73’s are please to announce that ‘2000 born defenseman Jack York has committed to the University of Maine for 2018-19.

The Kanata, ON native, who was originally the 8th overall pick by the 73’s in the 2015 CCHL Bantam Protect Draft tallied 6 goals and totaled 13 points in his rookie season with Kemptville.

The 5-11, 175lb two-way defenseman spent last season manning the blue line with the Kemptville U18 program where he had 21 points (2G, 19A) in 49 combined regular season and playoff games.

"Playing in our league as a 16-year old defenseman is difficult," said 73's Head Coach Ron Tugnutt.  "Jack adapted well and his skill and confidence really took off in the second half of the season.  He is working hard to become a well-rounded defenseman," added Tugnutt.

“This year I felt it was a great experience playing with and against older players,” said York.  “I felt I matured a lot as the year went on as both a player and a person.  It was great having guidance from the older guys.  I would like to thank the Kemptville 73’s for all they have done for me this year.  I am so excited to have the chance to play at the college level.  Maine has an amazing campus and hockey atmosphere and it is going to be a great fit for me,” added York.

The Maine Black Bears are no stranger to recruiting from the CCHL as former Kemptville 73’s player and Pittsburgh Penguins Draft pick Blaine Byron spent 4 seasons there while former Ottawa Jr Senators defenseman Robert Michel is heading into his Junior year.
