CCHL Recap | Colts, Bears, Nationals, 73’s and Wolves in Friday Night

Ottawa, ON – There were five action packed games this Friday evening in the Central Canada Hockey League. The Cornwall Colts traveled to the Brockville Braves, where the Colts won 5-2. The Smiths Falls Bears hosted the Nepean Raiders, after 60-minutes the Bears won 5-2. The Rockland Nationals visited the Hawkesbury Hawks, where the Nationals earned a 5-0 shutout. The Kemptville 73’s hosted the Pembroke Lumber Kings all the way for a shootout, where the 73’s won 3-2. The Renfrew Wolves traveled to the Navan Grads, where the Wolves won 8-6.

F | Cornwall 5 Brockville 2

Tristan Miron kickstarted the scoring for Cornwall in the 1st period. Brockville fought back in the 2nd period, with Jesse Lumsden and Peter Legostaev finding the net, countered by Bradley Fraser for Cornwall. The 3rd period saw Cornwall’s Kobe Tallman scoring two crucial goals, securing the lead, and Tyler Samodral added another for good measure. Cornwall goaltender Xander Miceli made 27 saves, while Brockville’s Edouard Piche made 24 saves.

F | Nepean 2 Smiths Falls 5

Nepean’s Mario Scalise opened the scoring in the 1st period, answered swiftly by Smiths Falls’ Owen Watson. The 2nd period witnessed a goal from Nepean’s Kyle Slingerland, but Smiths Falls surged ahead with goals from Matthew Martin-Gaudreault, Blake Menard, and Trevor Faucher. Faucher continued his scoring streak in the 3rd period, sealing the win. Nepean’s goaltender, Brady McEwan made 39 saves, while Smiths Falls’ Dawson Labre made 21 saves.

F | Rockland 5 Hawkesbury 0

The 1st period saw goals from Kyle Leonard and Samuel Dumont, setting the tone for Rockland’s dominance. In the 2nd period, Anthony Hall and Aidan Dres extended the lead. The 3rd period witnessed another goal, this time from Xavier Laurent, solidifying Rockland’s commanding performance. Goaltender Benoit Forget of Rockland made 31 saves and securing the shutout. On the opposing end, Hawkesbury’s goaltender Caleb Chabot made 29 saves. 

F | Pembroke 2 Kemptville 3 (SO)

Ryan Parent opened the scoring for Pembroke in the 1st period, and the 2nd period remained scoreless. The 3rd period saw goals from Eric Sweetapple and Nicholas Esposito for Kemptville, answered by Sutton Murray for Pembroke. Overtime concluded without further scoring, leading to a shootout where Grady Logue netted the decisive goal for Kemptville. Goaltender Kevin Jones started for Pembroke, making 17 saves before being replaced by Conor Waldron, who made 10 saves. Kemptville’s Dax Easter stood strong with 28 saves. 

F | Renfrew 8 Navan 6

The 1st period featured goals from Nicholas Paone for Navan and Mathieu Paquin for Renfrew. Renfrew dominated the 2nd period with goals from Kai Billey and Noah VomScheidt (2 goals), countered by Colin MacDougall and Noah Carpenter for Navan. The 3rd period continued the scoring frenzy, with Jace Letourneau, Noah VomScheidt (two goals), and Henry Wilson finding the net for Renfrew, while Danny Markham, Shaan Kingwell, and Nicholas Paone scored for Navan. Goaltender Viacheslav Gordeichuk of Renfrew made 34 saves, while Navan’s Jaeden Nelson made 22 saves.
