12 Days, 12 Previews: Ottawa Jr. Senators

Ottawa, Ont. —

Two years’ worth of Bogart Cup disappointment has left a sour taste in the mouths of everybody involved with the Ottawa Jr. Senators.

Dominant at times, OJS simply hasn’t been able to clear its final hurdle: Four-time defending champion Carleton Place.

GM/head coach Martin Dagenais and co. have loaded up for another serious cup run in 2017-18, adding the likes of proven veterans Owen Guy and Nick Lalonde.

OTTAWA JR. SENATORS

2016-17: 41-18-3 (3rd, lost Bogart Cup final to Carleton Place [4-1])

Key Losses: F Jaren Burke (RPI, NCAA-I), D Thomas Stevenson (Windsor, OHL), G Ian Andriano (RIT, NCAA-I)

Key Additions: F Owen Guy (Kemptville), F Nick Lalonde

Style of Play: “I don’t think we’re going to change much. We’ll still rely on speed and a strong forecheck. We’ll be sound defensively. Two rookie goaltenders will be different, (but) we’re confident in the players we have.”

Season Goal: “We want to win a championship. We know we’re going to make the playoffs, going to be top-four, (so) obviously the goal is to win a championship. Play the right way for 62 games so we’re ready come playoff time.”

Training Camp: “It’s obviously a lot of new players, so there were maybe a few chemistry issues early, but guys are looking sharp. We’re excited to get going.” — Head Coach/GM Martin Dagenais
