Week 6 Preview: Moves like Dagger

Ottawa, Ont. — Ah, Week 6.

We’ve settled into a rhythm, the contenders have already separated themselves in the standings from the pretenders, and the winds of change are blowing.

Personnel changes swept across the league this week, as two coaches changed benches and a number of intriguing trades may prove to be boosts in Pembroke and Navan.

The biggest news of the week broke on Thursday morning, when the Ottawa Jr. Senators announced the acquisition of OHL veteran David Pearce from Kanata.

Moves like Dagger — Jr. Sens GM Martin Dagenais — indeed.

Coaching Change: Jordan hired to turn 73’s around

STORYLINES

  1. New Faces in the Lineup — The Navan Grads made a much-needed pair of signings this week, adding forward Mike McPherson and goaltender Joseph Giacobbo. Both will be in the lineup this weekend, and the 3-8 Grads will need every boost with Kanata, Ottawa and Brockville (combined record: 22-14-3) on the docket this weekend. Pembroke also shored up its defence via a trade, bringing in Michael Douglas from Brooks (AJHL).
  2. Kemptville Needs a W — It’s dire straits in Kemptville right now, as the 73’s became the first team to hit the 10-loss mark on Wednesday night following a 3-1 loss in head coach Jeff Jordan’s debut. Captain Tyson Kirkby can’t win hockey games on his own.
  3. Marquee Showcase Showdown — With the Carleton Place Canadians faltering and the Ottawa Jr. Senators surging, Monday’s 3:45 showdown between the two could be for first place. Bogart Cup rematch in front of tons of scouts? Yes please.
