The Ottawa Junior Senators are the 2017/2018 Bogart Cup Champions!

Carleton Place, Ontario – In what was the highest scoring game of the Bogart Cup Finals, the Ottawa Junior Senators defeated the Carleton Place Canadians becoming the 2017/2018 Bogart Champions. The win ends the 4 year championship streak of the Carleton Place Canadians.

The game started off hot when 2 minutes into the 1st period, Brett Thorne scored the 1st goal for the Carleton Place Canadians on the powerplay. That goal was assisted by Samuel Knoblauch and Sam Allison. A little over 3 minutes later, the Ottawa Junior Sens were able to tie things up with a goal by Owen Guy off of the assists by Conor Smart and Craig McCabe.  As the game progressed, both teams went back and forth before the Jr. Sens took their 1st lead of the game scoring a powerplay goal 15:27 in from Elie Boulerice. The goal was assisted by Michael Thomas and Darcy Walsh. Just as it seemed like the Jr. Sens would take the lead heading into the 2nd period, the Canadians were able to counter right back with a goal with less than a minute left in the period. The goal was scored by Travis Broughman with assists coming from Justin Cmunt and Geoff Kitt.

The Jr. Sens came out in the 2nd period scoring 2 goals to help give them the lead heading into the 3rd period. The 1st of their goals came from Devon Daniels after the assists from Gabriel Morin and Owen Guy. That goal was scored 6:58 into the 2nd. The 2nd goal by the Jr. Sens was scored by Joe Alexander less than 2 minutes after the Daniels goal. The Alexander goal was assisted by Isaac Anderson and Finn Evans. The Canadians inched closer though as 17;48 into the 2nd period, Zachary Tupker scored a goal to bring them within 1 goal of tying Game 5 of the Bogart Cup Finals. That goal was assisted by Aidan Giriduckis and Samuel Knoblauch.

The 3rd period was a make or break period. The Canadians were able to tie things up quickly into the period with a goal by Tim Theocharidis to tie the game up at 4. That goal was assisted by Ben and Zachary Tupker. With a back and forth going between both teams, one looking to stay alive in the series, the other looking to win the game that would lead them to championship gold, the Junior Sens had an opportunity on the powerplay to give themselves the lead. With 8 seconds left in the powerplay, they did just that. Griffin McGregor scored the game winning goal for the Ottawa Junior Sens off of the assists by Owen Guy and Gabriel Morin. The Carleton Place Canadians made one final rush to keep their Bogart Cup hopes alive pulling goaltender Michael Leach with less than 2 minutes to play. The Canadians were unfortunately unable to come up with the game tying goal.
