Evenson named Week 24 POTW

Ottawa Ontario – The Central Canada Hockey League is pleased to announce that ’98 born goaltender Justin Evenson of the Brockville Braves has been named week 24 Player of the Week.

Evenson, 20, posted a 2-1 record with one shut-out and slashed .966SV%/1.33GAA over three starts against Hawkesbury, Cornwall and Carleton Place. The Minneapolis, MN, USA native had back to back wins against the Hawks and Colts with 30 saves in each of those games before making 53 saves in a loss to the Canadians on Friday night.

“For me personally, it’s just sticking to what works for me,” explained Evenson on his second POTW award. “The mental preparation and going into every game like I want to be the difference maker. I have had a ton of support from both Coach Winchester and my goalie Partner Nick Wiencek who has pushed me to be better and better every day”.

Through his success and consistent play, Evenson gives a lot of the credit to the team in front of him.

“Ever since the return of Jarvis and Kirkby back in the lineup, things have really started to click for us offensively and defensively. The guys are doing a great job coming back and getting set defensively, taking away passing lanes, blocking shots and doing everything in order for me to stop the puck” mentioned the young goaltender.

Evenson currently holds a 24-9-2 record with a 2.38GAA and a .929SV% in his first season in the CCHL.

This week’s honourable mentions go out to Darcy Walsh of the Ottawa Jr. Senators and Nepean Raiders goaltender Liam Souliere.

Walsh, 19, three goals and added two apples in two wins over Hawkesbury and Kemptville. Walsh now has 21 goals this season which is a new career high.

Souliere, 19, went 2-0 this week, only allowing four goals. He made 43 saves against Pembroke on Wednesday and 39 saves against Hawkesbury on Sunday.

This award is sponsored by CCM Hockey.
