Ottawa, ON- A busy weekend saw some great action.
Saturday October 5th
Ottawa 3 Smiths Falls 2
Both teams on the second game of a back to back looked to get into the win column. The Jr Senators came out flying with first period goals from Gagnon and Brenna. The Bears bounced back in the second as James and Ouellette found the back of the net. It was not until late in the 3rd period when Ben Kozyra scored the winner sending the home crowd home happy.
Sunday October 6th
Kemptville 1 Brockville 0
This was a battle of the top teams in the Robinson Division and it did not disappoint. The game featured two of the top goalies in the league as the 73’s Trenton Bennett (39 save shutout) and Braves Ryan Gerlich (34 saves) went toe to toe. In the end, it was a Gavin McDougall 2nd period goal that was the difference. Could this one be a potential playoff preview? Time will tell.
Carleton Place 4 Renfrew 2
This game felt like a heavyweight fight with teams trading blows. Started with McVie-Stevenson finishing off a nice passing play to open the scoring. The Wolves tied it up early as Souliere buried his 5th of the season. The Canadians then put there foot on the gas as Conrad and Pardy each got their 1st of the season. In the 3rd, Robillard brought it back to a one goal lead but it was not to be as Prud’homme found the empty cage top seals it for the Canadians
Rockland 3 Navan 2
In the battle of east end rivals, this one was too close to call. The Grads jumped out to the early lead as Johnson got his 4th of the season. The Nationals then proved why they are the province’s top ranked team as they buried 3 straight (Kelloway with 2 and Hall) before Dylan Thorne scored one late to make it a one goal game. Tomas Gagne was solid in net for the Grads making 25 saves in the loss. Benoit Forget moved to 5-0 on the season.
Pembroke 5 Nepean 4
The final game of the night featured the most goals of any game this weekend. Not what goalies wanted. This game featured some of the best duos in the league as Raiders Lunsden/Benoit squared off against Barnard/Alegria. The Raiders duo ended up with 4 assists while the Lumber Kings duo had 2g,2a. The difference in this one was the play of Fritz Berback-Rosengreen who got the winner in the 3rd period.
