Showcase Recap: Coykendall double lifts resilient Nats

Kanata, Ont. —

The Rockland Nationals continued to impress at the 2017 CCHL Showcase on Saturday, as they beat the Pembroke Lumber Kings 4-2.

Forward Trevor Coykendall netted a pair of goals, including the winner, in Rockland’s win as the Nats moved to 2-0.

Elsewhere, the Kanata Lasers, Hawkesbury Hawks, Carleton Place Canadians, Ottawa Jr. Senators and Nepean Raiders notched victories.

Rockland 4, Pembroke 2

The Pembroke Lumber Kings blew a third-period lead as Dan Sauve’s Rockland Nationals stormed back to win 4-2.

Dana Engram, Trevor Coykendall (2) and Mathieu Blanchette found the mark in the Nationals’ second win in as many games to begin the season; Brendan Browne and Salim Mahi-Beaudry scored in the losing effort for Dale McTavish’s Lumber Kings.

Kanata 3, Navan 2

The young Kanata Lasers broke into the win column on Saturday via a 3-2 decision over the Navan Grads.

JJ Boucher had a pair of goals in the win for Kanata, which earned the two points thanks to a Cameron Sinclair goal midway through the third period.

Michel Locatelli and Keenan Reynolds netted in the loss for Tony Iob’s Navan squad.

Hawkesbury 4, Smiths Falls 3

Captain David Jankowski led the way for the Hawks with two goals and an assist, as Rick Dorval’s team broke into the win column.

Bruce Coltart scored his first career CCHL goal in the loss for Smiths Falls, who dropped to 1-1 on the season.

Ottawa 5, Brockville 0

Chiwetin Blacksmith and Nick Lalonde each netted a pair of goals for the Jr. Sens as Martin Dagenais’s team romped to a 5-0 win over Brockville.

Darcy Walsh had the other goal for Ottawa, 2-0, while goaltender Gabriel Carriere posted a 20-save shutout in his CCHL debut.

Brockville netminder Yaniv Perets took the loss, giving up five goals on 36 shots.

Nepean 3, Kemptville 1

Darcy Findlay’s Nepean Raiders broke into the win column with a confident 3-1 win over the Kemptville 73’s on Sunday night.

Olivier Gauthier, Andrew Froese and Graham Denomme had the goals in the win for Nepean, 1-1, while Matthew Chan stopped 20 of 21 shots in a winning Raiders debut.
