Ottawa, ON — Smiths Falls, Carleton Place, Rockland, Navan and Kemptville all walked away with wins Sunday, keeping the playoff race hot.
Smiths Falls 6, Nepean 2
Smiths Falls defeated Nepean 6-2 in a dominant performance. The game began with early goals from Heins, Rabe, and James, with Smiths Falls leading 3-0 after the first period. Nepean responded in the second with power-play goals from Konobelj and Kahriman, but Smiths Falls added goals from Dagg and Parker to maintain a 5-2 lead heading into the third. Cardillo’s goal in the third period sealed the win for Smiths Falls. The game saw a total of 14 penalties, with both teams converting once on the power play. Smiths Falls outshot Nepean 40-30, with Morrow stopping 28 of 30 shots for the win.
Carleton Place 8, Cornwall 2
Carleton Place defeated Cornwall 8-2 in a commanding victory. The game started with a late goal by Allaby for Carleton Place in the first period, followed by a pair of power-play goals from Payie and Bouwer in the second. Cornwall responded with a goal from Miron, but Carleton Place extended their lead with another power-play goal from Payie and a strike from Payie again shortly after. In the third period, Carleton Place added goals from Hapke, Kay, Froysland, and Small, while Cornwall’s Beliveau scored their second goal. The game saw several penalties, including multiple game misconducts, but Carleton Place capitalized on their power-play opportunities, going 4-for-6, while Cornwall struggled, going 0-for-4. Carleton Place outshot Cornwall 37-18, with Vandenberg making 16 saves in the win, and Chabot stopping 29 shots in the loss.
Rockland 3, Brockville 2 (OT)
Rockland edged Brockville 3-2 in overtime after a hard-fought game. Brockville struck first with a goal from Cote in the first period, and then extended their lead with a power-play goal by Treppo early in the third. Rockland responded with a goal from Tellier in the second and tied the game with Laframboise’s goal in the third. The game went to overtime, where Hall scored just 32 seconds in to give Rockland the win. Both teams had strong goaltending performances, with Hogan making 27 saves for Rockland and Gillis stopping 30 shots for Brockville. Brockville went 1-for-1 on the power play, while Rockland had no opportunities.
Navan 5, Pembroke 3
Navan defeated Pembroke 5-3 in a well-fought game. Navan took a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Brown and Holmes. Pembroke responded in the second, cutting the lead to 2-2 with goals from Cardiff and Carvalho. In the third period, Navan regained the lead with Johnson’s goal, while Pembroke answered with Carvalho’s second of the game. Marcellino sealed the win for Navan with two goals late in the third, including an empty-netter. Navan outshot Pembroke 44-29, with Gagne stopping 26 shots for the win, while Modelski made a strong 39 saves in the loss. Both teams went 0-for-1 on the power play.
Kemptville 2, Nepean 0
Kemptville shut out Ottawa 2-0 in a tightly contested game. The only goal in the first two periods came from Fehr for Kemptville in the second, assisted by Voisey and Graves. In the third period, Trottier sealed the win with a short-handed empty-net goal late in the game. Kemptville outshot Ottawa 26-25, with Donovan earning a 25-save shutout, while Paddock made 24 saves in a strong effort for Ottawa. Both teams had one power-play opportunity but were unable to convert.
