Ottawa, ON — With multiple high scoring games and a 42 skater (21/team) shootout fans were sure to be entertained regardless of which game they tuned into Sunday.
Rockland 4, Nepean 1
Rockland defeated Nepean 4-1 in a fast-paced game. The first period saw Rockland take a 2-0 lead, with goals from Tellier at 18:43 and Marshall on the power play at 19:03. In the second, Rockland extended their lead to 3-0 with Labre’s goal at 6:42, before Nepean responded with a power-play goal from Campbell at 16:40. The final period saw Le Houillier seal the win for Rockland with a goal at 16:55, bringing the score to 4-1. Despite Nepean’s strong goaltending from Brant, who stopped 36 of 40 shots, Rockland’s Hogan was solid, making 34 saves on 35 shots. The game featured several penalties, including roughing and high-sticking calls, with both teams having opportunities on the power play. Rockland finished with a 1-for-3 performance with the man advantage, while Nepean went 1-for-6.
Smiths Falls 4, Carleton Place 3
Smiths Falls came from behind to defeat Carleton Place 4-3 in a tightly contested game. Carleton Place took an early 1-0 lead in the first period with Froysland’s goal at 5:44, but Smiths Falls answered on the power play with Booth’s goal at 14:15. The second period saw Carleton Place extend their lead to 3-1, with Prud’homme scoring on the power play at 6:31 and Froysland adding another at 7:54. Smiths Falls responded with two power-play goals of their own: Ouellette at 9:23 and James at 12:46, tying the game 3-3. In the third, Booth scored his second of the game at 13:10 to give Smiths Falls a 4-3 lead, which they held onto for the win. Both teams had ample opportunities on the power play, with Smiths Falls finishing 3-for-6 and Carleton Place 1-for-5. Morrow made 18 saves on 21 shots for Smiths Falls, while Vandenberg stopped 23 of 27 shots for Carleton Place.
Kemptville 6, Navan 5 (SO)
Kemptville narrowly defeated Navan 6-5 in a thrilling game that went to overtime and a shootout. Kemptville took an early lead with Shaw’s goal 42 seconds into the first period, but Navan equalized on the power play through Johnson at 5:42. Kemptville regained the lead with Fehr’s goal at 15:17. In the second, Kemptville added two more, with Graves scoring at 3:23 and McDonald at 17:36, while Navan answered with goals from Johnson and Holmes, making it 4-3 for Kemptville after two periods. In the third, Bennett extended Kemptville’s lead to 5-3 at 4:57, but Johnson completed his hat trick for Navan with goals at 7:45 and 9:02, tying the game. The game went to overtime but remained scoreless. In the shootout, each team scored once in the first 3 shooters, but it took 18 more rounds for a winner to be decided when Sweetapple scored. Bennett made 22 saves for Kemptville, and Gagne stopped 27 shots for Navan. Both teams struggled on the power play, with Kemptville going 0-for-4 and Navan 1-for-3.
Cornwall 5, Pembroke 3
Cornwall defeated Pembroke 5-3 in a fast-paced game marked by timely scoring and strong goaltending. Pembroke took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Barnard and Ushakov in the first period, but Cornwall responded with McCuaig and Ersoni scoring to tie it up. In the second, Cornwall gained the lead with goals from Gilmour and Bowen, the latter coming on the power play. Pembroke tried to rally in the third with Hayes’ power-play goal at 9:27, but Cornwall sealed the win with an empty-net goal from Fraser at 19:45. Cornwall’s Chabot made 29 saves on 32 shots, while Pembroke’s Modelski stopped 24 of 28 shots. Both teams had difficulty on the power play, with Cornwall going 1-for-6 and Pembroke 1-for-5.
