Ottawa, ON — Kemptville and Pembroke secured their second wins since the break, with Kemptville beating Renfrew 3-2, while Pembroke topped Hawkesbury 5-1.
Kemptville 3, Renfrew 2
The Kemptville 73’s defeated the Renfrew Wolves 3-2 in a hard-fought contest on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the North Grenville Municipal Centre. Kemptville opened the scoring with Beaulieu’s goal in the first period, but Renfrew answered with a power-play marker from Verspeeten and a late goal from Lefebvre to take a 2-1 lead heading into the second. In the second period, Kemptville tied the game at 2-2 with a power-play goal from Stubbings. The third period saw Sweetapple score the game-winner on another power play for Kemptville, as they held on to secure the 3-2 victory. Despite Renfrew’s strong goaltending from Kurtiak, who made 38 saves, Kemptville dominated the shot count 41-23. Renfrew went 1-for-2 on the power play, while Kemptville converted twice on four opportunities.
Pembroke 5, Hawkesbury 1
The Pembroke Lumber Kings defeated the Hawkesbury Hawks 5-1 on January 8, 2025, thanks to a dominant performance. Pembroke took control early, with Barnard and Alegria scoring in the first period to give the home team a 2-0 lead. Dres added a third goal before intermission, and Carvalho made it 4-0 in the second period. Hawkesbury got on the board early in the third with Skoczylas’ goal, but Pembroke responded with another power-play goal from Barnard to seal the 5-1 victory. Pembroke outshot Hawkesbury 40-33, with Modelski making 32 saves in the win. Despite a strong effort from Hawkesbury’s Breitzke, who stopped 35 of 40 shots, the Hawks couldn’t capitalize on their power plays, going 0-for-3, while Pembroke was successful twice on four opportunities.
