Ottawa, ON- Records are made to be broken and on Sunday the Navan Grads reestablished some team records after some phenomenal performances. Also seemed like 60 mins was not enough as we needed two shootouts to decide winners yesterday.
Nepean 4 Smiths Falls 3 (SO)
This was a fun matchup as both teams looked to gain some momentum early this season. Nepean came out strong but the pesky Bears just wouldn’t go away. Raiders got goals from Campbell, Smith and Papineau while the Bears got tallies from O’Connell, Hodge and Parker. However, 65 mins was not enough as the shootout was needed. It didn’t last long as the Raiders got the winner from Tristan Konobelj to send the fans at the Yzerman Arena home happy.
Rockland 2 Carleton Place 1
This had the makings of a chess match as these rivals squared off. After the 1st we had 9 total shots. Defense wins championships right? One of these 9 shots did go in thanks to Nationals Gabriel Le Houillier who buried his 1st of the season. Nothing more until the 3rd period when they traded goals (Henderson for CP and Kelloway for Rockland). The stellar play from Benoit Forget continued as he picked up 21 saves in the win.
Navan 10 Ottawa 3
As mentioned, this was a historic day for Shaan Kingwell and the Grads. Kingwell started his day with 2 goals in the opening stanza and after a quiet 2nd period he began his run. Kingwell scored not one, not two but three more (in a row as well) to cap his 5 goal day. Record one of the day. Not to be outdone, and also looking for his spotlight was Grads Sebbie Johnson. Johnson who looked like Bobby Orr out there had himself a day collecting 6 assists. Record two of the day. Finally, the team set a record for 3 shorthanded goals in one game. Record three of the day. In the loss, Jr Senators Xavier Guillemette had 1g, 1a.
Brockville 4 Pembroke 3 (SO)
The final game of the night again needed some extra time. Some fans even mentioned during the game that this one was destined for extra time and it did not disappoint. Teams went back and forth all game with no one earning the knockout punch. If not for the heroics from Braves goaltender Trey Caraccilo (39 saves) this one would have been over early. This one needed a shootout, and 9 round one at that. Each team got a goal early before the goalies stood tall. It was not until round 9 when Kellan Dostaler buried on a nice shot to give the Braves the win. In the loss, Jayson Allegria picked up his 8th of the season.
