Ottawa, ON — The CCHL saw 2 games Saturday night with Cornwall Colts and Navan Grads getting the wins.
Cornwall 2, Ottawa 1
Cornwall edged Ottawa 2-1 in a closely contested game, thanks to strong goaltending and timely scoring. Pyke opened the scoring for Cornwall in the first period, assisted by Warner and St. Onge. After a scoreless second period marked by penalties on both sides, Ottawa’s Matsukubo tied the game at 10:25 of the third. Cornwall regained the lead at 16:13 when Walker, set up by Lamoureux, scored the game-winner. Despite being outshot 31-20, Cornwall’s Lesperance-Spack made 30 saves to secure the victory, while Ottawa’s Paddock stopped 18 shots. Neither team converted on power-play opportunities.
Navan 4, Renfrew 0
Navan dominated Renfrew in a penalty-filled game, securing a 4-0 victory. Despite Renfrew’s frequent penalties, Navan capitalized on power plays in the second and third periods, with Jenken opening the scoring on a power play assisted by Kingwell and Johnson at 6:17 of the second. Smith, Thorn, and Pedersen followed with goals in the third, including two power-play tallies. Navan outshot Renfrew 35-23, with Gagne stopping all 23 shots for a shutout. Renfrew’s Kurtiak made 31 saves but struggled under constant pressure. Navan converted 2 of 9 power plays, while Renfrew went scoreless on four opportunities.
