Ottawa, ON — The CCHL saw lots of action Sunday with 10 teams facing off around the league. Kemptville, Cornwall, Carleton Place, Rockland and Pembroke all won their games.
Kemptville 5, Smiths Falls 4
Kemptville edged out Smiths Falls 5-4 in a tightly contested game marked by penalties and power-play goals. After a scoreless first period rife with infractions, Smiths Falls opened the scoring in the second with Cardillo’s goal, followed quickly by Montoni’s equalizer for Kemptville. Both teams traded goals throughout the period, with Hails and James scoring on power plays for Smiths Falls, while Stubbings and McDougall answered for Kemptville, leaving the game tied 3-3 entering the third. Smiths Falls briefly took the lead early in the final frame with Parker’s goal, but Kemptville responded with Shaw’s power-play tally and Bennett’s late game-winner at 19:33. Smiths Falls outshot Kemptville 32-21, but Kemptville’s Bennett made 28 saves to secure the victory.
Cornwall 3, Nepean 1
Cornwall defeated Nepean 3-1 in a hard-fought game, bolstered by strong goaltending from Melcher, who made 30 saves. Lauzon gave Cornwall an early lead with a goal just 2:11 into the first period. Nepean equalized early in the second with Smetham’s goal assisted by Robitaille and Yates. The third period proved decisive as Walker restored Cornwall’s lead at 6:10 with help from Bowen and Miron, and Kluksdahl sealed the victory with an empty-netter at 18:33. Cornwall outshot Nepean 36-31, and despite solid play from Nepean’s Gedraitis, who stopped 33 shots, Cornwall’s balanced attack and disciplined defense secured the win. Neither team capitalized on power-play opportunities.
Carleton Place 6, Brockville 3
Carleton Place secured a 6-3 victory over Brockville, led by a hat trick from Bouwer and a two-goal performance from Froysland. Carleton Place jumped out to an early lead with Froysland’s opening goal and a penalty shot goal by Pardy. Brockville’s Albright closed the gap late in the first period. Bouwer extended Carleton Place’s lead in the second before scoring twice more in the third, including an empty-netter at 19:55. Brockville fought back with goals from Paluszak and Legostaev, both on power plays, but couldn’t overcome the deficit. Carleton Place outshot Brockville 43-31, with Vandenberg stopping 28 shots, while Caracciolo made 37 saves for Brockville. Both teams capitalized on special teams, with Brockville going 2-for-3 and Carleton Place 1-for-5 on the power play.
Rockland 6, Navan 4
Rockland triumphed over Navan 6-4 in a game marked by momentum swings and standout performances. Rockland built a 2-0 lead in the first with goals from Baril and Spooner. Charron extended Rockland’s lead early in the second, but Navan responded with four goals, including two from Kingwell and a power-play tally by Johnson, to briefly take the lead. Charron’s second goal tied it at 4-4 heading into the third. Rockland regained control with Hall’s go-ahead goal and Le Houillier’s empty-netter to seal the win. Despite being narrowly outshot 35-34, Rockland’s Forget made 31 saves, while Navan’s Gagne stopped 29. Both teams went 1-for-3 on the power play, with physical play escalating into a third-period fight resulting in game misconducts for both teams.
Pembroke 6, Hawkesbury 2
Pembroke secured a 5-2 victory over Hawkesbury, powered by a strong start and late-game insurance goals. De Leon, Barnard, and Bowes each scored in the first period, giving Pembroke a commanding 3-1 lead despite Gelinas’ goal for Hawkesbury. In the second, Besner narrowed the gap to 3-2 with a late goal, but Pembroke shut the door in the third. Alegria scored shorthanded at 10:24, and Robillard added another late goal to seal the win. Both teams fired 34+ shots, with Pembroke’s Modelski making 32 saves and Hawkesbury’s Ruddy stopping 30. Neither team capitalized on power plays, going 0-for-4 in a penalty-laden game.
