RECAP | 10 teams faced off Friday night

Ottawa, ON — It was a busy Friday night across the league as 10 teams faced off. Brockville, Pembroke, Smiths Falls, Ottawa and Rockland all walked away with wins.

Brockville 5, Navan 1
Brockville triumphed 5-1 over Navan, rallying from an early 1-0 deficit with a strong second period and maintaining control through the third. Navan’s Meireles opened the scoring, but Brockville responded with five unanswered goals, including power-play markers from Dostaler, Paluszak, and Legostaev, followed by McNally’s goal in the third. Legostaev added another power-play goal in the third. Brockville outshot Navan outshot 47-21.

Pembroke 4, Kemptville 2
Pembroke defeated Kemptville 4-2, securing the win with a strong performance in the first two periods. Dres opened the scoring for Pembroke in the first, and in the second, Alegria extended the lead with a goal assisted by Barnard and Hayes. Cardiff added a short-handed goal before Kemptville responded with Trottier’s power-play goal and Graves’ follow-up, narrowing the gap to 3-2. Alegria sealed the win for Pembroke with his second goal late in the third. Despite being outshot 28-26, Pembroke’s Modelski was solid in net, making 26 saves, while Kemptville’s Donovan stopped 22 of 26 shots.

Smiths Falls 4, Nepean 2
Smiths Falls won 4-2 against Nepean, with a strong first and second period securing the victory. Smiths Falls took an early lead with Parker’s goal just 57 seconds into the game. In the second period, Tessier and Booth scored for Smiths Falls, with Nepean answering through Pollock and Williamson’s power-play goals, bringing the score to 3-2. However, Booth netted another goal late in the third period to seal the win for Smiths Falls. Despite being outshot 40-22, Smiths Falls’ Morrow made 20 saves, while Nepean’s Gedraitis stopped 36 of 40 shots. Both teams had multiple power-play opportunities, but Smiths Falls failed to convert on their chances, while Nepean capitalized on two of three.

Ottawa 4, Hawkesbury 3 (OT)
Ottawa triumphed 4-3 in overtime against Hawkesbury, overcoming a 2-1 deficit through a late rally. Hawkesbury took an early lead with Downey’s goal in the first period, and despite Ottawa’s power-play goal by Lobe to tie in the second, Hawkesbury regained the lead with Skoczylas’ goal. In the third period, Ottawa responded with two quick goals, one from Ouellette and another from Offman, to lead 3-2. Hawkesbury’s Rose answered back to tie the game, sending it to overtime. Ottawa sealed the victory just 17 seconds into the extra frame with Matsukubo’s goal. Despite being outshot 34-35, Ottawa capitalized on their power plays, converting twice on five opportunities, while Hawkesbury failed to score on three chances. Both goalies, Scully for Ottawa and Ruddy for Hawkesbury, made 31 saves each.

Rockland 7, Cornwall 3
Rockland dominated Cornwall 7-3 with a strong first period, where they scored five unanswered goals, including two from Marshall and another from Myloserdnyy. Cornwall’s Fraser scored a short-handed goal early in the second period, and McDonell added a power-play goal to bring Cornwall back within reach. However, Rockland responded in the third with goals from Marshall and Bryan, securing a comfortable lead. Despite Cornwall’s efforts, including a third-period goal from McCuaig, Rockland’s offensive power and solid goaltending from Forget, who made 17 saves on 20 shots, were too much. Cornwall’s Chabot faced 47 shots, making 40 saves. Both teams had several penalties, but Rockland capitalized on their power play once in six attempts, while Cornwall scored once in four opportunities.
