Pembroke erases deficit to stun Smiths Falls, 6-4

 

The Smiths Falls Bears could not hold down the Pembroke Lumber Kings, and Lumber Kings erased a three-goal deficit en route to a 6-4 win.

Pembroke never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Lumber Kings fell behind 4-1 after a power play goal by Smiths Falls' Kevin Groulx at 19:07 in the first period. Pembroke knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Felix Chamberland at 10:24 in the second period. The Lumber Kings got the game winner at 13:30 in the second period on a goal by Chamberland.

 

Pembroke forced Bears' goaltenders to work between the pipes, racking up 31 shots and forcing 25 saves. Michael Pinios made 16 stops and Cole Skinner made nine. The Lumber Kings bested their season scoring average. Pembroke has scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Pembroke also got points from Anthony Nellis, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Alexandre Boivin, who also had two goals and one assist. More assists for Pembroke came via Jesse Blais, Brendan Valko, and Adam Dauda, who each chipped in one.

The Bears forced the Lumber Kings' goalies to work without much rest, launching 37 shots and forcing 33 saves. Jordan Piccolino made 20 stops and Joel Horodziejczyk made 13.

Smiths Falls was led by Neil Doef, who racked up two goals and one assist. Doef scored the first of his two goals at 5:07 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Smiths Falls. Groulx assisted on the tally. Doef's next tally made the score 3-1 Smiths Falls with 1:24 left in the first period. A high sticking penalty on Dylan Chase had put the Bears on the power play. Jared Henry picked up the assist. Smiths Falls additionally got points from Groulx, who also registered one goal and two assists. Chris MacMillan also scored for Smiths Falls. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Cole Busschaert, who had two and Taylor Henry and Nicolas Coates, who contributed one each.

Pembroke incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Smiths Falls incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
