U SPORTS rosters boast 530 CJHL alumni

TORONTO – Heading into their stretch run, U SPORTS men’s hockey programs boast 530 Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) alumni competing amongst the 35 universities across the country.

Each of the nine CJHL-member leagues have a minimum of eight of their alums on U SPORTS rosters, while every school features a solid contingent of former CJHLers in their respective line-ups.

Comprising this list are those who played a minimum of five games previously for any of the current 118 clubs, or those franchises who relocated elsewhere within their respective CJHL-member leagues.

Among U SPORTS netminders, the top four so far this season, in terms of goals-against average, are all CJHL alumni.

Leading that contingent is University of New Brunswick goaltender Samuel Richard (Braves de Valleyfield/LHJAAAQ), who sits with a crisp 1.56 GAA.

Next is UQTR’s William Grimard (Whitecourt Wolverines/AJHL). He presently has an average of 1.90.

With a GAA of 2.00, Nikolas Hurtubise (Cobras de Terrebonne & Titan de Princeville/LHJAAAQ), is a goalkeeper with the Concordia Stingers.

Then there is Roddy Ross (Camrose Kodiaks/AJHL) of the Saskatchewan Huskies. He currently holds down a goals-against average of 2.07.

As for skaters, Owen Robinson (Blind River Beavers/NOJHL) is the top point-getter among former CJHLers, and is fourth overall nationally.

Pacing the Toronto Varsity Blues, Robinson has scored 13 times and dished out 21 assists in 23 games played.

Next is Carleton Ravens forward Giovanni Mourneau (Rockland Nationals/CCHL).

Tied for ninth in the country, Mourneau has 29 points in 22 contests, including 14 goals.

Close behind are the duo of Nick McCarry (Fort McMurray Oil Barons/AJHL) and Holden Rogers (Milton Menace/OJHL) with 27 points apiece.

McCarry skates with Carleton, while Rogers plays for the Brock Badgers.
