Nepean Raiders Honor the Past

Ottawa, ON- Over the course of a season, teams see several players come and go.   Some leave their mark on a franchise by scoring the big goal, setting up the power play or making the key save.   Then there are some that do that and so much more.   On Sunday afternoon, the Nepean Raiders honored two members of their past that played key roles in making this franchise what it is today.

Mackenzie Weegar and the Nepean Raiders will now forever be linked as he sees his famous #52 hung from the rafters at the Steve Yzerman Arena.  Weegar suited up for one season with the Raiders before he left to join the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Halifax Mooseheads, but he made his impact felt with 13 goals, 37 assists and 50 points in 53 games in 2011-12.   Weegar’s path was not like many you see, btu this pathed the way for the hard working and determined man we see now.    What make’s this day more special for all involved, Weegar’s best friend is Brandon Watts, whose dad Randy, is also being honored by the Raiders.   Forever linking these two families together.

Former executive Randy Watt has been a mainstay within the Raiders and CCHL family for decades.   Whether as a coach, general manager, governor, or his proudest as a hockey dad, Randy left an impression on all he met.  From working with the legendary Archie Mulligan, to leading the Nepean Raiders to a league title, his resume speaks for itself. But even more than his hockey acumen, Randy’s character and commitment to the CCHL is unparalleled. A colleague and friend to many, Randy is both a family man and a community leader. Randy Watt is a most worthy recipient of the Sam Pollock Award.
