Rockland 4, Smiths Falls 3
The Rockland Nationals earned a narrow 4–3 victory over the Smiths Falls Bears on Monday night at the Rockland Arena to take a three game lead in their Bogart Cup Finals matchup.
Rockland came out strong in the first period, with Le Houillier opening the scoring at 2:51 on a play set up by Belleau and Brunet. He struck again at 6:15, finishing another sequence involving Brunet and Laframboise to give the Nationals a 2–0 lead. Smiths Falls responded quickly, as Beauchesne scored at 6:29 off a pass from Parker to cut the deficit to one heading into the intermission.
In the second period, Le Houillier completed his hat trick at 8:23, converting feeds from Laframboise and Brunet to restore Rockland’s two-goal advantage. The Bears answered late in the period when Smith found the net at 19:03 with assists from Heron and Carvalho, making it 3–2 after forty minutes. Smiths Falls carried that momentum into the third, tying the game at 5:55 on the power play as Ott finished a setup from Smith and Heins. The Nationals, however, regained the lead at 12:17 when Le Houillier scored his fourth goal of the night, assisted by Brunet and Belleau, which stood as the game-winner.
In goal, Newton made 31 saves on 34 shots for Rockland, while Ruddy stopped 26 of 30 shots for Smiths Falls. The Bears went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Nationals were held scoreless on three opportunities.
