Rockland 3, Smiths Falls 1
The Rockland Nationals take game one of the Bogart Cup Finals with a 3–1 victory over the Smiths Falls Bears on Friday night at the Rockland Arena.
Rockland opened the scoring just 1:17 into the game when Dinis notched his second of the postseason, finishing a play set up by Belleau and Kelloway. The Nationals doubled their lead in the second period as Micallef scored his first of the playoffs, with assists from Brunet and Le Houillier, giving the home side a 2–0 advantage after 40 minutes.
Smiths Falls pushed back in the third period, cutting the deficit to one at 6:55 when Paquette scored his first of the playoffs off a feed from Smith and Larkin. Despite the late pressure, Rockland sealed the win with an empty-net goal from Garneau, his fourth, assisted by Le Houillier with 28 seconds remaining.
In goal, Rockland’s Newton turned aside 29 of 30 shots for the win, while Smiths Falls netminder Ruddy was busy, making 38 saves on 41 shots in a strong effort.
Rockland outshot Smiths Falls 41–30, and neither team was able to convert on the power play, with both clubs going 0-for-6.
