Kemptville survives Nepean comeback, wins 4-2

The Kemptville 73s survived a determined comeback attempt by the Nepean Raiders on the way to a 4-2 win.

Kemptville made the score 4-1 on a goal by Owen Guy at 6:01 in the third period, and Nepean got as close as 4-2 when Zach Renfrew scored 9:50 into the third period.

The 73s got the win behind a great game by Matt Tugnutt, who had two goals and one assist. Tugnutt scored the first of his two goals at 13:07 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Erik Brown picked up the assist. Tugnutt’s next tally made the score 3-1 Kemptville with 15:43 left in the third period. Brown provided the assist.

Kemptville managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The 73s ended up below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game.

Kemptville also got points from Alex Row, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. More assists for Kemptville came via Cameron Russell and Shawn Cameron, who each chipped in one.

Josh Zizek also scored for Nepean. In addition, Nepean received assists from Felix Page, William White, Jack Kilrea, and Nicolas Vlahos, who contributed one each.

Jacob Tugnutt made 26 saves for Kemptville on 28 shots. The 73s registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. The Raiders’ Francis Marotte stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Nepean incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
