Huge game by Sokay boosts OJHL OATES over MHL, 6-2

 

OJHL OATES' Ben Sokay had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 6-2 win over MHL.

Sokay scored at 5:18 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 12:26 into the first to make the score 3-2 OJHL OATES.

 

OJHL OATES forced MHL's netminders to work all game long, finishing with 32 shots and forcing 26 saves. Matthew Williams made 16 stops and Tanner Sommers made 10. OJHL OATES stifled MHL's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. OJHL OATES outdid its season average for goals scored. OJHL OATES has scored at the pace of 3.0 goals per game during the current campaign.

OJHL OATES also got points from David Thomson, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Joseph Teofilo also scored for OJHL OATES. More assists for OJHL OATES came via Derek Topatigh, Blake Coffey, Nathan Gomes, Dan Volpe, and Ryan Takamatsu, who each chipped in one.

MHL did not rack up many penalties in the contest, registering just one minor for two minutes in penalty time.

MHL was led by John Deacon, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Deacon scored 1:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 MHL. MHL also got a goal from Matt Barron as well.

OJHL OATES' starting goalie, Daniel Lopapa, made 13 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Gianluca Baggetta, who stopped 12 shots. OJHL OATES incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. MHL registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
