CJHL announces its 3 Stars of the Month for December – Fuelled by Gatorade
TORONTO – The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) announced Thursday that goaltender Kristian Coombs (Melfort Mustangs/SJHL) as well as forwards Loic Prud’homme (Carleton Place Canadians/CCHL) and Daxton Lang (Kam River Fighting Walleye/SIJHL) have been named its CJHL 3 Stars of the Month – Fuelled by Gatorade, for December.
1st Star: Kristian Coombs, (G) Melfort Mustangs – A solid final month of 2024 saw the 19-year-old netminder from Calgary, Alta., win all seven of his starts for the front-runners in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.
In each of his victories, Coombs allowed no more than two pucks to get past him, finishing with a goals-against average of 1.57 and an equally solid .931 save percentage.
His overall contributions between the pipes for Melfort, so far this season, helped his side go on a 17-game winning streak, which was the longest in the SJHL since the Humboldt Broncos accomplished the feat during the 2011-12 campaign.
In his second season with the reigning Canterra Seeds Cup champions, Coombs currently leads the SJHL in wins and GAA at 19 and 1.98 respectively. Meanwhile, his .927 save mark is third-best and he’s tied for first in shutouts with three.

2nd Star: Loic Prud’homme, (F) Carleton Place Canadians (CCHL) – Averaging a goal-a-game for Carleton Place in the time frame, Prud’homme collected eight tallies, including a pair of game-winners for the Canadians.
Featured for the 20-year-old from nearby Ottawa was a career single-game night when he scored four times in a triumph versus Kemptville on December 22 in Central Canada Hockey League action.
Last month Prud’homme went on to supply a four-pack of man advantage markers and one while his club was shorthanded. He also dished out seven assists along the way.
The Canadians’ captain presently paces his team in offensive production, competing at over a point-per-game clip with 38 in total, through 32 contests, on 15 markers and 23 helpers.

3rd Star: Daxton Lang (F) Kam River Fighting Walleye (SIJHL) – An impressive run saw Lang go on to register 15 points, in just six match-ups, for the Fighting Walleye, to lead all Superior International Junior Hockey League skaters.
Hailing from White City, Sask., the Kam River captain notched five goals and helped set-up 10 others. Three of his assists came on game-winners, highlighted by a career-best seven-point night against last season’s Bill Salonen Cup champions, the Sioux Lookout Bombers.
He also wrapped up the period with a plus-10 rating and currently sits second overall in the league, in that category, at plus-45.
Lang heads into SIJHL play this weekend leading the way in scoring with 56 points, in 30 games played, featuring a league-best 23 goals and is second overall in assists with 33.
