Carleton Place penalty kill dominates in 3-1 defeat of Nepean

 

The Nepean Raiders failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Carleton Place Canadians shook off a number of penalties to win, 3-1.

 

Carleton Place was led by Andy Sturtz, who tallied one goal. Sturtz scored 9:41 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Carleton Place. Stephen Baylis assisted on the tally.

The Canadians forced Nepean goalie Francis Marotte to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Others who scored for Carleton Place included Adam Lloyd and Jordan Larson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Willie Brooks, Andrew Dodson, Craig Pefley, and Trent Shore, who each chipped in one.

The Raiders' offense operated below their season average. Nepean puts an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game.

The Raiders were led by Felix Page, who scored the team's only goal. Page scored on the power play 8:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Nepean. Nepean had gained a power play chance when Shore was whistled for holding. Dakota Ford provided the assist.

Adrian Clark rejected 18 shots on goal for Carleton Place. The Canadians incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Carleton Place ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Baylis was ejected from the game. Marotte recorded 35 saves for the Raiders. Nepean incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
