A CCHL Original Article | Alumni Spotlight
A total of 18 alumni from the CCHL skated in ECAC programs during the 2018-19 school year, including 7 Seniors, 4 Juniors, 4 Sophomores, and 3 Freshmen.
Ryan Kuffner and Max Veronneau both finished their college careers at Princeton and signed NHL contracts, while Marly Quince capped off a successful college career at Clarkson. Adrian Clark had his most successful season between the pipes at Dartmouth, while David Jankowski put together a very strong Freshman season at St. Lawrence.
Moving into the 2019-20 season, Carleton Place Canadians Ben Tupker and Zach Tupker (Cornell), Kemptville 73’s Ashton Fry (St. Lawrence), Ottawa Jr Senators Ethan Manderville (Colgate), and Cornwall Colts alumni Sebastian Dirven (Cornell) have all made commitments to begin their NCAA careers with their respective ECAC programs.
Top Performers
F – Ryan Kuffner (SR) – Princeton University
The Ottawa, ON native finished his college career with yet another productive season where he led all Tigers skaters with 44 points (22G, 22A) in 31 games. The former alumni of the Gloucester Rangers graduated 2nd on the Tigers all-time scoring list with 152 points (75G, 77A) in 132 games of action. At seasons end, Kuffner signed a two-year entry level contract with the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings, where he is currently attending their development camp.
F – Max Veronneau (SR) – Princeton University
The other half of the dynamic duo at Princeton with Ryan Kuffner, Veronneau finished second on the Tigers with 37 points (13G, 24A) in 31 games. His 144 career points (52G, 92A) placed him 4th all-time in the Princeton record books for point production. He signed a two-year entry level contract with his hometown Ottawa Senators at seasons end, where he ended up dressing in 14 games, picking up 2 goals and 2 assists. He is currently taking part in their development camp.
G – Adrian Clark (JR) – Dartmouth College
The former Carleton Place Canadians netminder took charge this past season, setting personal college career bests in every major statistical category. The Toronto, ON native would start 33 games, posting a 13-15-4 record, while sporting an impressive 2.31 GAA, and .910 SV%. On March 10/19 Vs St. Lawrence, he would pick-up a 22-save Shutout, his 6th of the season, which set the new Dartmouth single-season record. The previous record of 5 stood strong for 113 years. He was recently invited to attend the Washington Capitals Development Camp.
Freshman Focus
F – David Jankowski – St.Lawrence University
The Freshman forward who was CCHL’s Most Valuable Player while with the Hawkesbury Hawks in 2017-18 didn’t look out of place in his first season at the college level. In 37 games, the Dundas, ON native tallied 8 goals and totaled 14 points, placing him 5th overall on the Saints. It is expected that he will be given a bigger role heading into his Sophomore season now that he has earned some experience.
Graduate Appreciation
F – Marly Quince – Clarkson University
The Cornwall Colts alumni and Sioux Lookout, ON native capped off his four-year stay at Clarkson by totaling 10 points (3G, 7A) in 34 games of action while being the top face-off man on the team where he won 53.1% of his draws. Majoring in Business, the former CCHL Top Graduating Player wore an “A” and helped the Golden Knights to a 2018-19 ECAC Championship. In 101 career games, Quince totaled 29 points (11G, 18A).
